鍼灸はもともと中国で発展した民間療法で、鍼（はり）やもぐさを利用して身体に刺激を与えることで治療目的や健康増進のために使われます。
人の体に３６１箇所（WHO認定分）あると言われる「ツボ」を東洋医学では「経穴」と呼び、そこを物理的に刺激することで体の不調を改善する治療を行います。
中国で長年蓄積された知識と経験により発展したこの療法は、今ではユネスコにより無形文化遺産にも指定されています。
正式に６世紀頃日本へ渡って来たとされる鍼灸医学は独自の発展を遂げ、特に江戸時代には多くの研究文献や施術技法が編纂され他国へ紹介される程になりました。
The philosophy and the method of acupuncture is said to have originated in China, developed as a common tools to cure various physical symptoms and promote people’s health.
Through the long history of its development it gained an accumulation of the knowledge of treatment.Today, this treatment is designated as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
In Japan, Acupuncture was incorporated into Japanese own medical experiment, also many precise research had left multipule professional textbooks that resulted in very important acupuncture guidance, uniquely accomplished as the most advanced medical treatment that even became influential to Chinese traditional method.

一口に鍼と言ってもその種類や用途は様々です。日本の鍼は、中国の伝統的鍼治療で使われるそれよりも細く、それぞれに効果や目的が異なるとも言われます。
