Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha is located in the city center, about 10 minutes walking away from JR Fujinomiya station. And in the head shrine, you can catch the beautiful scenery of Fujisan ( Mt.Fuji ) on the right, for that reason, the shrine has been a beloved place of relief for citizens. The head shrine can root back to 27 B.C. Over 2,000 years ago, as a ritual site built in the foothills of Fujisan to bury angriness of one of those divine spirits, ‘Sengen Taishin’, which was believed to erupt Fujisan over and over again. (Appendix: In 806, the shrine was moved to its present address.) After hundreds of years, The Shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa, who won Battle of Sekigahara, built and maintained other buildings as appreciation to the divine spirit.

The head shrine, the front shrine, and the tower-gate in the spot were built in the same era. And the head shrine which mainly was built to worship the main deity, ‘Konoha-no-Sakuyabime’, was registered as one of Japan national important cultural properties. On the summit of Fujisan, there remains a rear shrine ( called ‘Okumiya’, usually located behind the head shrine but dedicated to the same deity ), above the fifth station of Fujisan. Up there remain several rear shrines making the area to be precincts of Shinto. The shrines have so many people and travelers to come sightseeing that they are popular over the year, since every spring there are beautifully bloomed, whopping 500 cherry blossoms in the head shrine. And in May, Yabusame-festival (Appendix: Yabusame can be defined as a Horseback archery in English) is held, and in addition to those events, in November, Autumn festival is held too. In Autumn festival 20 running Japanese festival cars compete in a race. There’s a list of Mt.Fuji’s assets below the Japanese.
